Palier, Florian

Florian Palier was raised in Austria in a family of musicians and has been exposed to music and the arts since early childhood. He first studied with his father, guitarist Johann Palier; later with Marco Diaz Tamayo; and finally with Álvaro Pierri at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, from which he graduated with distinction.

Palier’s main field is classical guitar, on which he is a virtuoso performer. However, he also has many years of experience as a jazz musician; has collaborated with artists in electronic music; and is familiar with historical performance practice. In his compositions, he brings these different musical worlds together. Johann Sebastian Bach, Toru Takemitsu and Frank Zappa inspire his compositional style.

Palier has won numerous competitions: his awards include first prizes at international competitions in Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy and the Netherlands. His CD Castillos de España received excellent reviews. Concerts, radio and TV recordings have taken him across Europe, the US, Taiwan and Japan.

Palier teaches guitar at the Conservatory of Graz and master classes at various festivals and universities around the world.
